Canada’s first case of the coronavirus variant first detected in Brazil has been reported in Toronto.
Toronto Public Health confirmed the case in a news release issued Sunday afternoon.
TPH also reported the city’s first case of the South African variant. This is the second case of the B.1.351 variant in the province.
The first confirmed case of the South African variant in Ontario was reported last week and was detected in a person in Mississauga.
Prior to the announcement of these two additional infections, 175 cases of COVID-19 variants had been reported in the province.
