ST. JOHN’S, N.L. —
Newfoundland and Labrador’s elections authority has postponed voting in Saturday’s provincial election across the Avalon Peninsula, which includes St. John’s.
Voting will proceed as scheduled in other parts of the province, but the results will not be released until all voting in the province has concluded.
In a release Thursday, Elections NL officials say with growing COVID-19 case numbers in the area, they can’t retain enough workers to staff the polls.
The release says in-person voting is postponed until a later date in 18 districts, and mail-in voting options have been extended.
Authorities reported a record 53 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and imposed partial lockdown measured across metro St. John’s.
