Calgary firefighters battle blaze in Southwood

The Calgary Fire Department says one person is unaccounted for after a house fire in the community of Southwood on Tuesday.

Crews were called to a single-storey home in the 10700 block of Elbow Drive Southwest just before 5 a.m.

Firefighters found thick smoke coming from a fire in the basement of the home.

The CFD said four people were able to get out of the house safely on their own and were assessed at the scene by paramedics but another person is missing.

Firefighters are working to determine whether the person was at home at the time of the fire or if they potentially evacuated and left the scene.

No injuries were reported.
